Styling Pork Chops

I know when I go to Monrovia in August and it's 102 degrees, the first thing I think is "pork chops".  It's only natural.

This was the pork chop corral.  We had to find two that looked pretty together for the shot.  It's all about options, y'all.

Tiffany was on fat burning detail.  We all started craving bacon...

The magical T-pins.  These babies hold things where you want 'em, and you can make them disappear pretty easily.  A must-have for any food stylist.

T-pin close-up.  We were using it as a kickstand for the chop.  Worked perfectly.

One of our beauty chops getting ready to for the set.

Jon, the photographer, getting anal with the parsley.  We understand completely.

And...

...it's a wrap!  Who wants some applesauce?

More Rancho La Puerta Love

All photos courtesy of Catriona Tudor Erler

You know how we feel about Rancho La Puerta.  It's no secret.

One of the many wonderful things that happened to us on our last visit was meeting garden photographer, author and speaker, Catriona Tudor Erler.

She wrote a lovely piece about her experience at Rancho for Destinations Travel Magazine, and we wanted to share it.  I'm relaxed just reading it...time to go back!

Click here to enjoy Catriona's take on spa paradise.  You will see a table of contents on the left; simply click on Rancho La Puerta at the bottom.

Blueberry Lemon Squares, courtesy of Jean Muir

Now I want pancakes...

Jean Muir is a blueberry farmer in Oregon (how cool is that?), and a dear friend of Denise's.  Click here to see her 2010 bounty.

The mighty blueberry picking machine

A family farm, Phil and Jean Muir sell to a co-op that sells to various grocery stores, including Costco and Smuckers for jams and jellies.  They also have a U-Pick for the public where they pick their own fruit for $1.50/lb.

She was kind enough to share a home recipe with us.  Mandy may have to make these immediately and take their picture, so stay tuned...and if you make them, take their picture and send to us!  We will post it!

LEMON BLUEBERRY SQUARES

Crust:
½ cup butter
1 cup flour
½ cup powdered sugar

Filling:
1 pint blueberries
¾ cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 eggs
1 tablespoon grated lemon, plus 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Blend flour, butter, sugar in a bowl.  Press into 9x13 inch pan.  Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

Mix sugar and cornstarch.  Beat in eggs and lemon.  Pour onto cooled crust.  Spread blueberries over top and bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, until set and crust is golden brown.  Sprinkle with additional confectioners sugar (optional).
